Vision Statement

We believe that we have an obligation to equip our pupils with the skills to use I.C.T. as a tool to support them throughout their lives. As educators we must ensure that pupils are aware and excited by the developing state of I.C.T. and its importance in the world of work. We recognise that I.C.T. can facilitate communication and independence for pupils, within school and the wider community, and is particularly suited to develop the attention and concentration of pupils at Corbets Tey.

We believe I.C.T. should be embedded in the curriculum and make learning motivating so that skills that have been learnt in I.C.T. lessons are applied and reinforced. Furthermore we believe that through embedding I.C.T. that standards will raise across the curriculum.

We believe that every pupil and member of staff is entitled to become a confident and competent user of I.C.T. and that a culture of development and improvement in our provision is important to keep pupils and staff motivated. Therefore, our provision will be continually reviewed and refined in line with current developments, the needs of the pupils and the training needs of staff.

Our aim is that I.C.T. should become an integral and natural part of teaching and learning as well as support administrative tasks and provide good access to school related data. (This vision statement has been arrived at through consultation between staff, governors, pupils and parents.)

The school aims for ICT ICT is seen as an integral part of the school curriculum. Corrbets Tey School aims to meet individual needs so that all pupils have access to the curriculum. ICT is used within each area of the National Curriculum and is a means of teaching across the curriculum, reinforcing learning, enhancing and extending learning opportunities for all pupils. The school's curriculum organisation

Once a term a class will work on completing one or two units of work based on the Equals Schemes of Work. (This will be the objectives not necessarily the activities listed.) The study will last for half a term (see long term plan overview). Alternative units from the Newham and Greenwich ICT schemes of work are also indicated on the long-term plans and teachers have the discretion to draw on these.

Individual Equals units are used to form the basic medium term plans. Adaptations are made to ensure the plan is progressive in developing pupil capability. These are used as working documents to identify time markers, additional resource needs and to indicate whether optional activities have been undertaken. A completed unit will be evaluated by the class teacher and feedback given to the coordinator. This information will be used improve future planning.

Each class from Class 3 onwards is allocated a weekly time in the ICT suite to accomplish their ICT scheme of work units. The aim is to increasingly embed this scheme within the whole school curriculum to ensure that delivery of ICT is linked to subjects.

A high ratio of individual machines in classrooms support the development of ICT capability by enabling further development of tasks from the ICT room; encourage research and allow for the creative use of ICT across the curriculum.

Cross Curriculum Links

ICT contributes to teaching and learning in all curriculum areas. For example, graphics work links in closely with work in art, and work using databases support work in mathematics, while CD ROM's and the Internet prove very useful for research in humanities subjects. ICT enables children to present their information and conclusions in the most appropriate way.
