Curriculum | Modern Foreign Languages

Corbets Tey School beleives that it is helpful for pupils to have experience of a modern foreign language. The language followed in school is French. The work is almost entirely oral, it is all conversational and situational. A trip to France takes place once a year.

Modern Foreign Languages at Corbets Tey School - Aims
  • To give pupils a statutory experience of a modern foreign language;
  • To offer experiental opportunity for pupils to use language of the form that supports basic interaction, saying hello, giving name, etc;
  • To support language learning that would be helpful for a visit to France such as being able to select from a menu in a restaurant.
Our Objectives
  • Pupils will have sucess with oral French;
  • Pupils will have enhanced confidence resulting from the enjoyment of the basic use of the language;
  • Pupils cultural awareness will be supported by the learning opportunities.

We aim that children from Beech Class (4) to Palm Class (8) will have the opportunity at times during the year for work with language.

The basic scheme followed has evolved through use in school into work around a number of keywords. These keywords include basic 'meeting and departure' conversation, 'parts of the face' and 'rooms in a house'.

The work is music supported in some contexts. This offers opportunity for enhanced enjoyment and also for repetition and reinforcement. The work is ICT supported through interactive whiteboard use in some contexts.
