Curriculum | Physical Education

The school believes that physical education when experienced in a safe and supportive environment, contributes to a pupil's physical and emotional development and their health and well being. The physical education program is intended to support the pupils, increasing self confidence and ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations.

The progressive learning objectives combined with the supportive teaching practise provides a challenging learning experience that is both stimulating and enjoyable but attainable for each individual pupil. It builds on their success motivating them to further develop their potential.

The programme provides each pupil with experiences that will encourage a lifelong interest in sport and recreation. There will be a balance of individual and team work, with co-operative and competitive activities.

The activities offered and teaching approaches seek to provide the pupils with opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities through improvisation and problem solving. Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy and fit body and begin to understand those factors that affect health and fitness. This work is closely aligned with the school's policy and scheme of work for PSCHE.

It is considered important that physical education is integrated into the whole school's planning for the development of pupil's communication, numeracy, PSCHE and ICT skills.
