Curriculum | Art

Our aim is to provide a learning environment in which Art is experienced, enjoyed and celebrated, a vehicle for pupils to create and explore without fear or self-consciousness. We provide a wealth of opportunities for all individuals to experience and to take pride in their success. Art has high focus in Corbets Tey School.

Art at Corbets Tey School - Aims:

  • To develop interest, enthusiasm and confident enjoyment of Art and Design.
  • To stimulate creativity and immagination through a range of stimuli.
  • To develop pupils understanding of the world in which they live through the visual, tactile and sensory opportunities Art offers.
  • To utilise Art to motivate and enhance work in other areas of the curriculum.

Objectives:

  • To develop the self-confidence of every pupil to allow maximum independence in all activities.
  • To provide a scheme that allows pupils maximum opportunity to explore using a range of senses to develop understanding and enhance ability to represent their experiences.
  • To encourage exploration of colour, form, texture and pattern through a range of materials and mediums.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to discuss their work and others work using appropriate vocabulary and to make informed value judgements.
  • To give pupils the opportunity to look at the work of other Artists and Craftspeople across time and cultures and the role Art has played in shaping the environment in which we live.

Art is taught through topic based approach in Key Stage 1. The scheme of work outlines mediums and materials to be explored and skills to be developed.

In Key Stages 2 and 3 pupils are encouraged to use their knowledge to develop their work further, whilst continuing to build on the bank of skills, mediums and materials used.

At Key Stage 4 pupils follow the WJEC and CoEA in Art course, leading to the production of a portfolio of work for assessment and an extrenally moderated exam.

G.C.S.E. Art will be considered as an additional option for pupils as appropriate.

An Art instructor works with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils. She works towards the role of Artist in Residence and offers support and advice to the whole school.

All pupils have the opportunity to work individually, in small groups and also in class or larger group projects. Positive discussion and evaluation of own workand that of others is encouraged from the early years so that it becomes a safe and natural ongoing process.

Work is displayed and appreciation by others encouraged. Coursework is supported by original artefacts and work wherever possible and visits to galleries and local exhibitions encouraged.
