Key Stage 4: A balance of the National Curriculum including Entry Level certificates. We offer a range of courses from First Skills through to GCSE covering a wide range of abilities. Language and CommunicationHolly Class (For Specialist, Intensive Learning Therapy)Holly Class serves pupils who have severe communication difficulties that cause significant barriers to accessing a differentiated, language enriched National Curriculum. Admission is through discussion between Class teacher, Deputy Headteacher, Parents and Educational Psychologist. Places are prioritised in terms of depth of specific pupil need. This class focuses on a behavioural approach to teaching communication skills to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. The key objective is to motivate each child to talk and to develop functional communication skills, which will aid development of skills in all areas. Parent training and support is an integral part of a placement in this class. Daytime training sessions enable parents to fully support, and work in partnership with, the school. Parents are encouraged, where possible, to attend a three-day introductory course in Verbal Behaviour. Language and communication is strongly supported by the use of Makaton signs and symbols. |
