In September 2007, Corbets Tey School gained Specialist Status for Communication and Interaction and successfully re-designated in 2010. This enabled us to develop our Language work both internally for our own pupils and externally for Mainstream Schools and other partners. We spent our ‘Capital Build’ allocation on a new wing which provides a Language Resource and Advice Centre, Training room and Partnership offices on the first floor.
The Language Resource and Advice Centre continues to be open to all Havering schools and pre-school settings at Corbets Tey school every Thursday afternoon in term-time from 1.15pm to 5.00pm. Please drop in for support, advice for specific children or to borrow resources for your school. An Advisory Teacher and Specialist Assistant for Speech, Language and Social Communication will be available each week to offer advice and support.
In addition, Inclusion Consultations will be held weekly throughout each term, to offer support for students with behaviour and/or social communication needs. These will continue to be held at the Corbets Tey Language Resource and Advice Centre on Wednesday mornings. The 45 minute joint consultations with the CAD 5-19 and Behaviour Support teams will provide an opportunity for analysis of the student’s behaviours, and for advice and recommendations to be discussed. Click to see flyer. If you wish to book an appointment please email CAD5to19@havering.gov.uk or call 01708 433936.
We have a wide range of resources that will assist in the delivery of Speech and Language programmes for pupils in all Key Stages including the under fives. These resources are free for schools to borrow to assist in the delivery of Speech, Language and Communication Programmes. We aim to be as user friendly as possible and therefore have technology based Language support resources e.g. Black Sheep Press, Symbols and Clicker as well as resource making equipment such as printers and laminators for your use. Resources are added to and expanded in line with schools’ needs, so please come along and let us know how we can support you.
