Emma Allen

I am privileged to have served as head teacher of Corbets Tey School for the last three years.
I started teaching in a special school in Thurrock as soon as I finished my Bed Hons twenty five years ago. I was lucky enough to be offered a term teaching Art (my specialist subject) to secondary pupils with learning difficulties. This experience meant that I was quickly ‘hooked’ on special education and never quite made it to mainstream! I was seconded to Thurrock advisory service for one day a week prior to leaving Thurrock as a Numeracy Consultant supporting mainstream schools focused on raising achievement.
I became a senior teacher in my fourth year of teaching and then thirteen years ago applied to Corbets Tey for the position of Deputy Head teacher. I enjoyed setting up new specialist classes and helping the school to gain its specialist status for communication and interaction.
I am passionate about raising levels of aspiration and achievement for children of all abilities. I am committed to developing a culture in which initial barriers to learning are perceived as a stimulus for seeking the solutions to success.
I have been married to Steve for over twenty six years and he is also now a teacher in another special school. I am the mother of two boys of 21 and 25.
